My Take
Yukari Kinga is exactly the kind of player who holds a team together without ever demanding the spotlight, and I genuinely respect that. A Kanagawa kid who came up through Nippon Sport Science University and carved out a long career as a midfielder in Japan's women's top flight — she was part of the Nadeshiko Japan squad that shocked the world at the 2011 Women's World Cup, one of the great underdog tournament runs in soccer history. That alone earns her a permanent place in the story of the sport in Japan. In an era when women's soccer was still fighting for the attention it deserved, she kept showing up and doing the work. That's not a small thing.
