My Take
Adam McKay fascinates me because of his reinvention. He spent the 2000s making gleefully dumb Will Ferrell comedies, then pivoted to dissecting financial collapse and climate denial with The Big Short and Don't Look Up. What I respect is that he never abandoned comedy, he weaponized it, using farce to make systemic rot legible to ordinary viewers. An Oscar for adapted screenplay confirmed the gamble paid off. Plenty of filmmakers can either make you laugh or make you angry, but McKay does both in the same breath, and that rare dual instinct is exactly why I keep watching.
