My Take

What strikes me most about Adele is her refusal to chase trends. While pop reinvents itself every few months, she keeps releasing what amounts to deeply personal diary entries set to that astonishing mezzo-soprano, and somehow the whole world listens. Coming out of Tottenham, she never adopted a manufactured persona, and I think that ordinary, self-deprecating warmth is exactly why her heartbreak ballads land so hard. The Grammys, the Oscar, the Brits all matter, but to me her real achievement is making vulnerability feel like strength. She is one of the few artists who can empty an arena of phones and fill it with genuine emotion.
