Alan Johnson

Alan Johnson's story is the sort that earns my genuine respect. Born in Paddington in 1950, he rose from postman and trade unionist to Education Secretary, Health Secretary, Home Secretary, and Shadow Chancellor, a Labour heavyweight forged not in elite corridors but on the working floor. What draws me to him is that authenticity; he knows the pressures of ordinary working life because he lived them. Having someone with that lived experience reach the heart of government feels reassuring in a way polished careerists rarely manage. To me, this is what a grounded, credible politician actually looks like, and I admire it.
