Alex Newell

Newell stopped me cold the first time I heard that voice. From Lynn, Massachusetts to Unique on Glee and then to a 2023 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Shucked, the trajectory shows range that pure effort can't fully explain, there's raw, God-given instrument in there. What moves me most is the way they turned unapologetic self-expression into the very engine of the climb, refusing to shrink to fit a category. They're still young, and honestly that's the exciting part: I have no idea how far this talent goes, and I can't wait to find out.
