Alexander Emelianenko

Alexander Emelianenko has always lived in the long shadow of his legendary brother Fedor, and I think that shadow has cost him a fair hearing. At 192 cm, a three-time world Combat Sambo champion who crossed boxing, judo and mixed martial arts, he had genuine power and a chaotic, human edge that his disciplined brother never showed. I am drawn to fighters like him precisely because they are flawed; the danger and the recklessness are part of the story. Where Fedor was the model professional, Alexander carried the light and the darkness both, and imperfect athletes are often the more compelling ones.
