My Take

Alina Reyes, born Aline Nardone in Bruges, is the sort of writer I genuinely respect. Building a reputation on the literary treatment of eroticism is no small dare, because it means refusing cheap titillation in favour of using desire as a mirror onto the human core. That she also worked as a journalist tells me she trains her eye on both the body and society, a rare double vision. Writers who press their pen straight into taboo need nerve, and to me that willingness to excavate longing is, paradoxically, an act of deep faith in people. I'm drawn to that kind of unflinching, serious craft.
