My Take
Alison Lohman is one of those actors who always left me wishing Hollywood had used her more before she quietly stepped away. She had this uncanny ability to play teenagers well into her twenties without it ever feeling like a gimmick — Ridley Scott leaned into exactly that in Matchstick Men, where she held her own against Nicolas Cage in a way that genuinely surprised people. Then she showed a completely different gear in Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell, getting absolutely put through the wringer and pulling it off with real physicality and commitment. She never seemed to chase fame, and her eventual retirement feels consistent with someone who was always more interested in the work than the spotlight. A genuinely underrated talent from that mid-2000s era who deserved a longer run.
