Andre Ward

Andre Ward is one of those fighters who makes you feel slightly embarrassed for ever doubting him — the guy retired in 2017 with an undefeated record across two weight classes, holding unified super middleweight and light heavyweight titles, and somehow did it all without the circus theatrics that sell pay-per-views. He's from San Francisco, trained at the Rockridge Youth Boxing Club as a kid, won gold at the 2004 Athens Olympics, and then methodically dismantled everyone the sport put in front of him. Critics occasionally complained his style was too "technical" — which is just a polite way of saying he made brilliant boxing look boring because he was so far ahead of his opponents. The 2021 Hall of Fame induction felt less like a celebration and more like a formality. One of the cleanest careers in modern boxing, full stop.
