My Take
Andrew Dost reads to me as a restless musical traveler. From Anathallo to the band Fun. and onward to the bossa nova leanings of Metal Bubble Trio, he refuses to plant a flag in any single genre. What I find compelling is that he tasted mainstream success and kept moving anyway, chasing the sound he wanted rather than the one that paid. That lightness, the willingness to leave a comfortable spot for something new, is for me the real sign of an artist rather than a careerist.
