My Take
Andrew Eldritch fascinates me as a study in contradiction: a former Oxford student from Ely who became the brooding high priest of gothic rock. As the Sisters of Mercy's frontman and only surviving original member, he steered the band from post-punk into goth and later toward hard rock, never letting it sit still. To me his dark glasses and low, sardonic voice are not a costume but a worldview. I suspect the sharp wit underneath is the real engine. He reads as an artist to the bone, allergic to nostalgia and committed to his own strange vision.
