My Take
Andrew Eldritch fascinates me as a study in contradiction: an Oxford-educated intellectual from Ely who became the brooding high priest of gothic rock. As the Sisters of Mercy's frontman and only surviving original member, he steered the band from post-punk into goth and later toward hard rock, never letting it sit still. To me his dark glasses and low, sardonic voice are not a costume but a worldview. I suspect the sharp wit underneath is the real engine. He reads as an artist to the bone, allergic to nostalgia and committed to his own strange vision.
