My Take

For me, Anthony Pettis will always be the Showtime Kick, that springboard-off-the-cage flying kick that belongs in any highlight reel of MMA history. Out of Milwaukee and rooted in taekwondo, he turned striking into theater and climbed all the way to the UFC Lightweight title. He fought across divisions, even crossed into boxing and the PFL, and through it all chose flash over caution. In a results-obsessed sport, Pettis committed to entertaining the crowd above everything, and that made him irreplaceable. I will take a fighter who dares to thrill over a safe points-machine any day.
