My Take
Arlene Foster is a figure I find impossible to dismiss, whatever one thinks of her politics. Rising from a Fermanagh upbringing and a law degree at Queen's University Belfast to lead the DUP and serve twice as First Minister of Northern Ireland took real nerve, especially in a region where every decision is contested. I am genuinely struck by a woman reaching the top of such a combustible political arena. Her tenure was divisive, but standing in the firing line rather than fleeing it earns my respect. Her new role chairing Intertrade UK suggests she still wants to shape the place she comes from.
