Asahiyutaka Katsuteru

I'll be honest, sumo guys like Asahiyutaka fascinate me. Born in 1968 out in Kasugai, Aichi, he reached komusubi, earned the nickname "Matsuken of sumo" for his film-star looks, and now runs Tatsunami stable. What I love about sumo wrestlers is how unglamorous the actual work is: years of dawn keiko, foot-stamping, getting shoved into the dirt over and over, all to detonate in a bout that's done in seconds. There's a monk-like patience to it that I genuinely respect. I picture a steady, disciplined guy who let the dohyo do his talking. That kind of quiet grind earns my admiration every time.
