My Take

Austin Riley is the kind of player who makes you believe in slow burns — he came up to Atlanta with enormous raw power but took a few years to truly figure things out at the big-league level, and watching that development pay off has been genuinely rewarding. By the early 2020s he had blossomed into one of the better third basemen in the National League, the kind of guy who can absolutely destroy a fastball and has quietly tightened up his glove work too. There's a blue-collar authenticity to him — a Mississippi kid drafted out of high school who grinded his way through the minors — and that comes through in how he plays, no flash, just consistent, hard-nosed baseball. He signed a massive long-term extension with the Braves in 2022, and honestly it felt well-earned.
