Barry Odom

What draws me to Barry Odom is the arc of a man who played the game before he learned to teach it. Born in Lawton, Oklahoma, he suited up as a linebacker at Missouri and then circled back to coach at the same program. I find that loyalty to one's roots quietly compelling. Defensive minds rarely get the spotlight that quarterbacks and head coaches enjoy, yet they shape outcomes from the shadows. Odom strikes me as a builder rather than a showman, and I tend to root for that kind of steady, earned authority on the sideline.
