My Take

At 203 centimeters, Benjamin Patch is the kind of athlete whose body alone tells a story, but what interests me is the path he chose. A Utah kid out of Brigham Young University, he helped the United States win gold at the 2017 NORCECA Championship, then went looking for harder competition abroad rather than coasting on the American circuit. That restless ambition is the part I respect. Volleyball rewards more than reach, and I suspect Patch's real value lies in his willingness to keep testing himself against the best, far from home, on his own terms.
