My Take
Billy Herrington fascinates me as a study in unintended legacy. A bodybuilder and adult-film actor from North Babylon, he became something he never planned: a beloved internet icon in Japan, the affectionately nicknamed Aniki of Nico Nico Douga culture. What I respect is how he embraced it, visiting Japan and meeting the fans who reinvented him. When he died in 2018, the grief from that community was genuine and widespread. There's a strange poetry in finding your truest audience an ocean away from where you started, and Herrington carried that surreal second life with real grace.
