Blaze Bayley

Blaze Bayley carries one of metal's toughest jobs in his resume: succeeding Bruce Dickinson in Iron Maiden. Following a voice that beloved is a near-impossible brief, and I respect that he weathered the scrutiny without breaking. The Birmingham singer made his name in Wolfsbane, endured the Maiden years, then built a solo catalogue of eleven albums while eventually rejoining his old band. That refusal to quit, to keep writing and touring through criticism, strikes me as the essence of heavy metal itself. I admire resilience more than any single hit, and Bayley has it in abundance.
