Bobby Kimball

Bobby Kimball is one of those voices that defined an era whether you knew his name or not — that soaring, stratospheric tenor fronting Toto is basically woven into the fabric of late-1970s and early-1980s rock radio. As the original frontman of Toto from the band's formation in 1977, he anchored a group of absurdly talented session musicians and helped turn their debut album into something genuinely electrifying. Losing the gig in 1984 felt like a gut punch in retrospect, but his return stints — especially the 1998 comeback — showed he still had the pipes when it counted. A kid from Orange, Texas who made it to the top of the rock world on sheer vocal power alone: that's a career worth celebrating.
