Brian Auger

Brian Auger is a musician's musician, the kind of Hammond organ master whose collaborators read like a dream lineup: Rod Stewart, Jimi Hendrix, John McLaughlin, Eric Burdon. What captivates me is his refusal to sit in one genre. He folds jazz, R&B, soul, and rock into a single restless voice, and his Grammy nomination only hints at the influence he's quietly held. Born in London in 1939, his sheer longevity is humbling. I love that he never chased the spotlight as a frontman; he simply let the keys do the talking, and they always have.
