My Take

What strikes me about Brian Griese is the full arc from player to teacher. He quarterbacked at Michigan, got drafted by Denver in 1998, and later returned to the game as a quarterbacks coach for the 49ers. I find that second chapter more interesting than the stats line. A quarterback lives and dies by reading the field under pressure, and turning that hard-won instinct into something you can pass to younger players takes a different kind of intelligence. The Miami-born Pisces clearly understands the position from the inside out, and that depth of football literacy is, to me, his real legacy.
