My Take

For my generation, Brian Littrell's soaring tenor is pure nostalgia, the bright thread running through the Backstreet Boys' biggest harmonies. Out of Lexington, Kentucky, he later joined cousin Kevin Richardson in the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame, which says a lot about the depth behind the boy-band shine. What I respect is his willingness to step away from pop spectacle into contemporary Christian music, following his own faith and voice rather than the charts. With son Baylee now a country singer, music clearly runs in the family. A Pisces with real emotional warmth, he made songs that outlasted their era, and that earns my affection.
