My Take
Bruce Springsteen earned the nickname 'the Boss,' but what I admire is how little he behaves like one. Across six decades and twenty-one albums he has kept writing about people who punch clocks, lose factories, and drive highways looking for something better, and he sings it like their lives depend on it. The marathon shows, still stretching past three hours, strike me as a moral statement: you paid, so I empty the tank. Plenty of rock stars sell escape; Springsteen sells dignity, which is rarer and wears better. For my money he remains the gold standard of what a live rock performance can be.
