BT

BT is the rare electronic artist who is equal parts emotional songwriter and obsessive technician. The early trance records carry a soaring, almost orchestral sweep that set him apart from peers chasing the dancefloor, and his invention of the stutter edit quietly reshaped how a generation chops vocals. What fascinates me is his restlessness: he'll pivot from anthemic trance to film scoring to literally building software that lets others make the sounds he hears in his head. The Berklee training shows in how compositionally serious his work is. He's a producer's producer, admired most by the people who understand how hard it is.

BT (born Brian Wayne Transeau in 1971) is an American composer, producer and DJ widely regarded as a pioneer of the trance and progressive electronic genres. Emerging in the 1990s with influential tracks and albums such as Ima and ESCM, he is credited with popularizing the 'stutter edit' production technique. Beyond electronic music he has composed for film and television and developed audio software, earning a Grammy nomination for his work.
