C. J. Ramone

There's a special kind of courage in taking the name Ramone without being a founder. When C. J. stepped in for Dee Dee in 1989 and carried the bass through to the band's retirement, he wasn't just filling a slot, he was shouldering a legacy at full speed. I respect anyone willing to be the last runner in a legendary relay and never let the tempo drop. That blue-collar New York grit comes through, and the fact that he kept playing solo afterward tells me the music was never about the marquee. To me he's the loyal anchor of punk's loudest family.
