My Take
Carlos Saldanha is one of those filmmakers whose work made my house laugh long before I learned his name. A Brazilian from Rio de Janeiro, he helped power the Ice Age films, charmed audiences with the manic squirrel Scrat, and poured the color and rhythm of his home city straight onto the screen in Rio. He rose from animator to director and earned his country's Order of Cultural Merit, but what I value most is the generosity in his films, the constant, sincere wish to delight the viewer.
