My Take
Carmen Maura is, for me, the beating heart of modern Spanish cinema. A six-decade career and a record three Goya Best Actress wins are impressive on paper, but they cannot convey how alive she is on screen. As Almodovar's muse in films like Women on the Verge and Volver, she fuses strength, sensuality and grief into something utterly human.
