My Take

Catherine Keener is the kind of performer I value most: the indelible supporting player who quietly outclasses the leads. The Miami native built her reputation on prickly, melancholic, deeply human women in independent cinema, and her 2005 sweep of critics' awards plus two Oscar nominations confirmed what film lovers already knew.
