Cecilia Todd

Cecilia Todd is the kind of artist I instinctively respect: a keeper of cultural memory rather than a chaser of charts. Born in Caracas and singing while playing the cuatro, she has spent more than half a century carrying the folk traditions of Venezuela on a small four-stringed instrument. There is something quietly heroic about devoting a lifetime to your homeland's music instead of bending toward fashion. She may never have been a global pop name, but artists who preserve and renew their roots are, to me, the truly lasting ones. I would love to hear that voice live in a Caracas night.
