My Take

I have a real soft spot for grinders like Chad Bell. A Knoxville native who came up through a community college and clawed his way to the Detroit Tigers, then crossed the Pacific to pitch for the Hanwha Eagles in the KBO, he's the opposite of a blue-chip prospect handed everything. That willingness to keep chasing the game wherever it led, and to later turn to coaching, says a lot about his love for the sport. Big numbers aren't the point here. It's the journeyman's persistence that earns my respect, and those are exactly the careers I love rooting for.
