My Take

What strikes me about Chen Wei-ting is how early he put himself on the line. Born in 1990 in rural Miaoli County and studying at National Tsing Hua University, he stepped into LGBTQ and social activism while barely out of his teens, at a time when that stance carried real cost in Taiwan. I tend to admire the unglamorous, unfamous voices that do the slow groundwork, and Taiwan's later leadership on marriage equality in Asia didn't happen in a vacuum. To me he represents that quieter layer of conviction-driven young activists whose names rarely trend but whose courage shifts a society's center of gravity over time.
