Chi Chi LaRue

Chi Chi LaRue is a genuinely larger-than-life figure, and I mean that in every sense. Born Larry David Paciotti in Hibbing, Minnesota, in 1959, he built a prolific career directing adult films while performing as the unmistakable drag diva persona that gave him his name. The 1995 AVN Hall of Fame nod tells you how much of a fixture he became in that world, and I find the duality fascinating, a behind-the-camera director and an out-front showperson rolled into one. Whatever one makes of the industry, there's an undeniable craft and showmanship to building a brand that distinctive and keeping it relevant for decades.
