Chuck Leavell

Chuck Leavell is, to me, the ultimate musician's musician. He anchored the Allman Brothers Band at their commercial peak, co-founded Sea Level, and has served as the Rolling Stones' touring keyboardist and musical director since 1982, a staggering tenure. Being trusted to hold that band together night after night says everything about his reliability and taste. What I respect most is his temperament: he stays out of the spotlight and quietly makes everyone around him sound better. That kind of selfless craftsmanship is rare, and this Alabama-born player embodies it beautifully. A genuinely classy artist.
