My Take

Ciryl Gane fascinates me because he upends what a heavyweight is supposed to be. At 193 cm he should fight like a wrecking ball, yet he glides, feints and out-thinks opponents with a Muay Thai striker's footwork that looks almost choreographed. A relatively late starter out of La Roche-sur-Yon, he reached interim UFC champion on craft rather than brute force, which I find far more compelling than the usual heavyweight slugfest. The title near-misses sting, but they also reveal a fighter still learning, still adapting. I'm quietly rooting for him to convert that elegance into an undisputed crown.
