CoCo Vandeweghe

Vandeweghe always struck me as a player who let her power and personality do the talking. That 185 cm frame produced a genuinely intimidating game, and rising from junior US Open champion to the world top ten is no small feat. I find her doubles triumph at the 2018 US Open especially memorable, partly because she paired with Ashleigh Barty to win it. She wore her emotions openly on court, which some found combative, but I appreciated the honesty. Born Colleen Mullarkey in New York, she carved out a career on her own fierce, uncompromising terms.
