Dean Parks

Dean Parks is the kind of name only liner-note readers recognize, and that's exactly why I admire him. A Fort Worth guitarist trained at North Texas, he spent decades coloring other people's records rather than chasing a spotlight of his own. A Grammy nomination hints at how respected he is among musicians, but what strikes me is the temperament such a career demands: precision over ego, service over fame. The session world runs on people like this, and I think the music we love would sound noticeably thinner without their quiet, unglamorous craftsmanship holding everything together.
