My Take
Constance Wu matters to me less for any single role than for what she represents: an Asian American woman from Richmond, Virginia holding center stage in Hollywood on her own terms. Her breakout as the mother in Fresh Off the Boat, then headlining Crazy Rich Asians, felt like genuine cultural movement rather than mere career steps. What I respect most is her willingness to speak plainly about the industry's injustices, even when honesty costs her. That candor is exactly why her 2022 Time 100 nod carries real weight. With directing now on her resume, I suspect her most interesting work is still ahead.
