My Take

Even now, Daijiro Kato's name tightens something in my chest. Born in Saitama, he became the 250cc world champion in 2001 and twice won the Suzuka 8 Hours, pairing world-class speed with a warm, disarming smile that fans adored. His death at just 26, from a crash at Suzuka in 2003, remains one of motorsport's most painful losses. More than two decades on, his riding has lost none of its brilliance in my memory, and his place in the MotoGP Legends hall feels utterly deserved. To me he represents not only raw pace but the pure, dream-carrying spirit that makes Japanese racing history something to be proud of.
