My Take
What I admire about Daryl Mitchell is how he refused to let circumstance define him. He came up as a rapper, pivoted to acting, and after the accident that put him in a wheelchair, he kept commanding the screen on his own terms. In Galaxy Quest and NCIS: New Orleans he isn't cast as a symbol of disability; he's simply a good actor who happens to use a chair, and that distinction matters enormously to me. The 2010 NAACP Image Award feels earned. I love performers who win you over with craft and warmth rather than backstory, and Mitchell does exactly that.
