Dave Blaney

Dave Blaney earns my respect the hard way, through dirt. Before NASCAR's Cup and Nationwide series, he was a sprint car standout, and that grassroots pedigree tells you everything about his grit. What I find most human about him is the long pursuit of Super Dirt Week in Syracuse, a race he chased for years and never won. There is something more compelling in unrewarded persistence than in easy trophies. Now semi-retired, the Ohio racer represents a vanishing breed of driver forged on rough tracks rather than polished marketing. I will always applaud that kind of stubborn, mud-spattered dedication.
