My Take
Daveed Diggs is, to me, one of the most exhilarating boundary-crossers working today. Originating Lafayette and Jefferson in Hamilton, then walking off with a Tony, is impressive enough, but what I respect is the refusal to settle into a single lane. He raps with the experimental group Clipping, writes, acts on stage and screen, and carries a Brown degree without leaning on it. The Oakland kid who smuggled real hip-hop instincts into a founding-fathers musical did something genuinely subversive. What I find rare is that he is not merely versatile but excellent in each form, and that keeps me eager for whatever he tries next.
