Davey Havok

What I admire most about Davey Havok is his refusal to be boxed in. Fronting AFI's punk fury, Blaqk Audio's electro-pop, XTRMST's hardcore and Dreamcar's new wave is not dabbling; it is a genuine restlessness that few vocalists could sustain without diluting their identity. Yet his voice and aesthetic remain unmistakable across all of it. Coming out of Rochester, New York, and known for his disciplined vegan-straightedge ethos, he strikes me as an artist driven by conviction rather than trend. I find that single-minded curiosity, channeled through so many forms, quietly rare and worth celebrating.
