Dean Ornish

Dean Ornish is one of the physicians I most admire, and not for headline reasons. Born in Dallas in 1953, he spent decades arguing, and backing with his own research, that diet and lifestyle can treat heart disease without drugs or surgery. That's a quietly radical stance in a medicine culture obsessed with intervention. I'm also struck that he's a photographer and educator on the side; to me that signals someone who sees patients as whole human beings, not just charts. His Preventive Medicine Research Institute work has shifted how prevention is taken seriously. I find his patient, evidence-driven persistence genuinely inspiring.
