My Take

Dee Dee Ramone is, for me, the raw beating heart of punk. As bassist and a prolific songwriter for the Ramones, he supplied much of the reckless energy that made those two-minute songs feel like a manifesto. I am less interested in technical polish than in the pure impulse he poured into every chord, and Dee Dee had that in abundance. He left us in 2002, yet his three-chord blueprint still ignites kids worldwide. I have a deep soft spot for artists who become permanent sparks rather than fading flames, and he absolutely qualifies.
