Dominic Howard

Dominic Howard rarely gets the spotlight Matthew Bellamy commands, but as Muse's co-founder and drummer he is the engine that makes their stadium-sized sound actually move. I admire drummers like him precisely because their work is invisible until it stops; pull him out and the whole machine collapses. The 2008 honorary doctorate hints at how seriously his craft is taken. To me he represents the quiet, relentless professional who chooses propulsion over applause, and that kind of discipline behind a flashier frontman is exactly the contribution I find most underrated in rock music.
