Don Bacon

What strikes me about Don Bacon is the arc: nearly three decades in the Air Force, retiring as a brigadier general, then pivoting to Congress. That is not a vanity second act; it is someone who has actually commanded people in high-stakes settings choosing to keep serving. Having led wings in Germany and Nebraska, he brings operational grounding that pure career politicians often lack. I tend to trust figures who built credibility the hard way before entering the spotlight, and Bacon reads as exactly that kind of measured, Midwestern pragmatist who earned his platform rather than inheriting it.
