Ella Ballentine

Ella Ballentine earns my respect for one tough assignment handled beautifully: playing Anne Shirley, a near-sacred figure in Canadian culture, and winning critics over rather than disappointing them. Taking on such a beloved character demands real nerve, and the Joey Award and Canadian Screen Award suggest she delivered. I like that she came up through the Toronto stage as a child actor and made the notoriously difficult leap into adult roles, with singing and theater in her kit too. Born in 2001, she still has her prime ahead of her, and I'm quietly rooting for how far that range can take her.
