My Take
Elle King hooked me with her voice before anything else. Born in Los Angeles in 1989, she blends country, rock, and blues into something gloriously rough around the edges, and I love that she never sands it down for polish. There's an art-school sensibility colliding with barroom grit, and the grit always wins. What I value isn't technical perfection but rawness, that lived-in, human quality that makes a song stick. From her debut EP onward she's followed her own instincts rather than chasing trends, and that stubborn authenticity is exactly the kind of artist I root for.
