Elvis Stojko

Elvis Stojko represents something I genuinely respect in figure skating: the refusal to soften. A karateka as well as a skater, he brought a martial, muscular athleticism to a sport that often prizes elegance, and that contrast made him unforgettable. Three world titles, two Olympic silvers, seven Canadian championships, all built on power and conviction rather than conventional grace. I admire athletes who win by being uncompromisingly themselves instead of bending to the judges' taste. From Newmarket to the Hall of Fame, and on to coaching and acting, he carved an identity that still feels singular to me.
